Fall In All It's Glory

Yesterday we went to an apple orchard to pick apples. It's a really big thing here in Michigan. We must have passed two other orchards on our way to this one that a friend recommended. It was about 25 minutes away, north of Ann Arbor in a town called South Lyon, and it was the most spectacular drive. Picture a tree lined country road (except your not really in the "country") and the leaves have already started to change. There were beautiful old red barns about every five miles and we were listening to my Copland cd. It looked like scenes from a movie. Fall is my favorite season and it couldn't get much better than this (well, so I thought....that is until we got there and ate their apple cinnamon sugar doughnuts and their pumpkin glazed doughnuts and drank their hot apple cider. Holy Yum! And that's not just the pregnancy talking!)

One of Miles new words is "pumpu" (pumpkin). We thought he would be a little more excited to see this huge one but he was too busy looking at all the kids running around and the animals at the petting zoo and the tricycle tire course across the way. This is as good of a smile as we could get out of him (as if he was saying, "hurry up mom and dad, I want to go play!")
Miles started eating apples (ones that he found on the ground) even before the tractor came to pick us up and take us to the orchards.
Good thinking John for having us bring the back pack for Miles. It was the perfect height for him to reach the apples on the higher branches.
Waiting for the tractor to come and pick us back up. By now we had picked Empire, McIntosh, and Gala, and we were headed on to pick some Mutsu apples. I can't wait to start baking with some of these apples:)

Looks like a great place and now I'm seriously disappointed that the orchard we went to doesn't have pumpkin glazed donuts! Let me know what yummy recipes you try with your apples!
